What I did at CNSC:
Week I
Assignments:
- Meet Carlos Serrano Quan, Director of the CNSC
- Introduced to other CNSC members
- Research/ get to know CNSC
- Look through other organizations’ Annual Reports
Outcome:
- Be ready to prepare an outline of how CNSC’ Annual Report should look like
Week II + Week III
Assignments:
- Meet Charlie Chan, the Director of Communications & Special Events
- Prepare abbreviated version of Annual Report: create Balance sheet and Income statement (work with Charlie during the weekend)
Outcome:
- transformed international version of statements to a GAAP standard on excel spread sheet ( 2pages)
- Prepared Balance Sheet and Income statement for 2010-2011
- Graphed the outcomes using different charting formats (3 charts highlighting different sections in the I/S and B/S)
Week IV
Assignments:
- Apply feedback from Charlie on B/S, I/S and the graphics during the weekend
- Prepare an elongated Annual Report- edit information about the organization, reorganize pictures taken during various events
- Edit Jacky’s Story
Outcome:
- More direct, concise description about the organization’s activities (2 pages turned to 1 page)
- Wrote about Jacky; the “Jacky’s story” (2 pages) by summarizing his scholarship essay
Week V
Assignments:
- Feedback from Charlie (apply the feedback)
- Assist Charlie with his new project: English, SAT Tutoring programs for high school students
Outcome:
- Shorten Jacky’s story more
- Use more adjectives to describe different events provided by the organization
- Interviewed two current high school students to seek different ways to advertise/ approach students with this great program!
Week VI
Assignments:
- Research local San Francisco high schools to see different programs they offer to their students
- Talk to Charlie for feedback
Outcome:
- Research schools where majority student population is Chinese (because the program is only offered for Chinese students) through online, create a document listing their curriculums, club activities (relating to the program), their contact information
- Lincoln High School
- Galileo High School
- George Washington High School
- Edit Jacky’s story: mainly focusing how the organization helped him to grow
